Sidsel Endresen & David
Toop will perform their very first duo concert on Friday 1 September.
Sidsel Endresen is well
known to the Punkt audience, she has deﬁned and re-deﬁned vocal sound since her
break-through in the early 1980s. Sidsel has worked with a vast number of
musicians in Norway and abroad, including Bugge Wesseltoft, Christian Wallumrød, Helge Sten, Stian Westerhus, Vilde&Inga and Jan Bang / Erik Honoré. She has written music for ﬁlms, theatrical productions as well
as other commissioned work. She continues to be of huge inspiration to young
vocalists (and improvisers in general) around the
globe. Her work has spanned genres from "fusion" and
"jazz-rock" in the -80's, to free-improvisation, electronics and
"new music" in the -90's and the new millennium. Sidsel Endresen has received 5 Spellemann awards (Norwegian "Grammy"), 2 Nordic Council nominations, the German WDR Award for 2016 and the 2016 Lindemann Award.
David Toop has recorded
with the Flying Lizards, exhibited sound installations in Tokyo, Beijing and
London’s National Gallery, worked with artists ranging from John Zorn, Derek
Bailey, Evan Parker, Bob Cobbing and Ivor Cutler to Akio Suzuki, Simon Finn,
Camille Norment and Max Eastley. He has published six books, translated into
ten languages, including Rap Attack, Ocean of Sound, Haunted Weather, Sinister
Resonance, Into the Maelstrom (shortlisted for the Penderyn Music Book Prize)
and an autobiography, Flutter Echo, published in Japan in 2017. Since his first
album, released on Brian Eno’s Obscure label in 1975, he has released twelve
solo albums, including Screen Ceremonies, Black Chamber, Sound Body and
Entities Inertias Faint Beings, and many collaborations with improvisers and
artists including Alterations (Peter Cusack, Steve Beresford and Terry Day),
Thurston Moore, Tania Chen and Ken Ikeda.
